Day-to-Day Precautions
• In the best interest of customer’s safety, no tampering should be done with any component of the gas connection.
• Company should be informed immediately if the gas flow in your house or area is stopped.
• Make a safe practice to close the main control valve if your house is closed for one or more days.
• For the safety of customers, all the doors and windows should be opened before switching on the gas after long stoppage.
• Always use the standard ISI mark stoves/burners.
• Rubber tube should be regularly cleaned with wet cloth and it should never be covered.
• Ensure that rubber tube is not bent or has a knot.
• Ensure that hot pot/ hot utensils/ hot liquid are not in direct contact with the rubber tube.
• Never leave the burner/ stove unattended, while cooking is in progress.
• Never ignite match or lighter when there is a doubt of gas leakage/ Gas smell.
• Gas leakage / gas escape can be easily detected due to its peculiar smell or odour.
• Make a practice to close the burner knob and gas tap after completion of the cooking.
• During cooking if the gas supply stops by any reason, immediately close the burner knob and gas tap. Open the doors & windows and re-open the gas supply only after ensuring there that there is no gas smell.
• It is safe to wear cotton apron or cotton cloths during cooking.
• Never use sari to lift any utensils from the stove.
• It is safe to ignite match first, and then to switch on the gas supply.
• Keep children away from the gas stove and gas connection.
• Periodically keep checking the rubber tube.
• Never store combustible or explosive/ flammable items in the kitchen.
DO’S
• Every morning, make a habit to open the doors & windows before putting on the gas of electric light. Since gas is lighter than air, it would disperse in the air immediately. This will avoid incident of fire/ explosion, in case of leakage in the connection.
• In case of gas leakage/ smell in the house, close the main control valve, open the doors and windows and immediately inform the gas company. Cordon off the area: do not allow any naked flame, spark or smoking near the leakage point.
• If the leakage is observed in the PE line, inform the company immediately and do not allow any vehicles near the leakage point.
• Inform the company for any excavation/ construction work on gas line by you or any other agency near or around your house.
• Make a practice to close the gas tap before going to sleep at night.
• You must close the main control valve if your kitchen is closed for one or more days.
• For any alteration always contact Gas Company and get the alteration work done through the company- authorized contractor only.
• Ensure safe condition of the rubber tube by periodical checking and ensure it is tightly fitted with gas tap and stove.
• Never use non-standard unauthorized tubes; always insist on rubber tube supplied/ approved by the gas company.
• If you find any gas leakage, open all the doors and windows, immediately move out from your house.
• For any emergency, immediately contact the gas company.
DON’T'S
• Do not operate the electrical switches and appliances when you smell the gas leakage.
• Do not ignite the match, bidi, cigarette, candle, lamp etc. in case of gas leakage.
• Do not continue cooking when you smell the gas leakage.
• Do not carry-out/ allow any excavation and construction on gas line. If required consult the gas company.
• Never carry out any alteration by yourself and never do any tampering with any component of the gas connection.
Safety Steps to be taken in case of Gas Leakage
• Immediately close the main control valve if there is a leakage in the house and open all doors & windows.
• Do not operate any electrical switches or appliances.
• Do not ignite match, bidi or cigarette, lamp, etc.
• Do not operate/ park vehicle near the PE leakage point.
• Immediately contact the gas company to check/ attend the leakage.
Cleaning the burner
• Close the main valve and gas tap.
• Allow the stove to cool down and then clean the burners with cloth. Clean the burners with warm water and use soap or other cleaning agent if the burner is oily.
• Allow the burner to dry up. Clean the burner head in the similar way. Clean the burner head with the hard brush.
Guidelines for Geyser usage/ location
• Gas Geysers should be installed at areas like kitchen, living rooms, utility rooms, halls and passageways if ventilation can be achieved.
• If the geyser is to be installed in the bathroom(s), it should be well ventilated or must have an exhaust fan.
• If the bathroom is small and if the exhaust system is not installed, the Geyser must not be installed inside the bathroom because in such condition the installation of Geyser may lead to accumulation of fumes which may result in suffocation/asphyxiation.
