What is CNG?
CNG is Compressed Natural Gas; it is the auto fuel in Gaseous state. It is economical, clean burning, alternative fuel source for vehicles. It is mainly comprised of Methane (89%-90%). Since it has low density, it is compressed up to 200 bar pressure so that the storage capacity in the fuel tank can be increased, thus it is named Compressed Natural Gas. It is colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-carcinogenic and lighter than air.

Is CNG safe?
Yes, it is safe. It is lighter than air, so in case of a leak it just rises up and disperses into the atmosphere. The properties of CNG make it a safe fuel.

What is the cost of conversion from petrol to CNG?
The conversion cost depends upon the type and make of the automobile, but roughly the cost varies between Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000.

Once the CNG in the fuel tank gets consumed, can we run the automobile on gasoline (Petrol)?
Yes, even after converting the automobile to CNG, we can run our vehicle(s) on petrol thus; one needs to flick the switch on Dashboard to make it operational on petrol or CNG.

What is the capacity of cylinder, and mileage from one fill?
The tank with the storage capacity of 50 liters of water, can store up to 7.5 to 8 Kg of CNG. It is equivalent to 10 - 11 liters of petrol. The mid-sized car of about 1300cc can run up to 150 km to 160 km in one filling.

How does one get to know the quantity of CNG left in the cylinder?
As a part of CNG conversion kit, an electronic fuel measurement system is installed in the vehicle, which will show the consumption of CNG on Dashboard.

Does CNG have any harmful effect on engine?
The absence of any lead content in CNG helps avoid lead fouling of plugs, thus enhancing plug life. Upon entering the engine in the form of a gas, CNG doesn’t disturb the presence of lubricating oil in the engine, and reduces chances of wear and tear. Further, it does not contaminate or dilute crankcase oil, giving a new lease of life to the engine.

Can a diesel vehicle be converted to CNG?
Under the latest technology it cannot run on duel fuel mode, a diesel vehicle can be converted to run on CNG, but the conversion cost is higher than the conversion of petrol vehicles.

How does a large-scale usage of CNG benefit the country?
As compared to alternative fuel to CNG, it emits lesser amount of Carbon dioxide and other pollutants, thus it helps to reduce the pollution & health related problems caused by automobile pollutants. Further, due to its low price as compared to its alternative fuel, with improved mileage, it helps to save more money. With the emergence of new sector i.e. Natural Gas, it has generated more opportunities in business as well as in terms of employment.
